The new office building of the Kali & Salz AG in Kassel stands out because of its elegant, lively shape. Gentle s-curves throughout the building gives the generous glass façade and building complex an organic, dynamic kind of characteristic.
The inward curving facade of the ground floor is supported with white columns. Four completely canister floors stretch over with doble rear ventilated facades. The fifth floor structures the board room with an over hanging roof.
Lights and open structures of the facade create trancparency and Dynamic through light shifting. the buildings structure emphathise the company's position. No governmental appearance but an organic communicative arrangment, which is in a constant dialog with its surrounding.
The light concept of Thomas Emde enhanced the particular appearance of the building and turns it to a dynamic light sculpture during night. The characteristic S form of the floor plan would be emphasized through the lighting accentuation of the frame. Furthermore, the dynamic rolling form of the building would be highlighted through lighting and changing of colors, and transfers into a motional part. The dynamic lighting should strenghten the influence of the architecture - the curve motion - and reflect it into the outside
The color game would be produced by special light methods - RGB module- which could be individually controlled by a special program. The illuminated - invisible from outside- are shining up on the jalousie and creates a soft immaterial light flow through each window element. Thereby the facade transfers into a different light during night and appears constantly in different lights and different faces. From soft blue to violet till strong green light goes the game on.
The fact that the facade is conventionally bordering the building from outside turns it to a bounding element. it leads to a dialog between and in the enhancement to a flowing through from inside to outside.
Light application highlights the architectural concept and supports the surrounding form of the building. The light concept will not consider itself autarkic but relates itself to the architecture and communicate softly with the surrounding.
Light will turn to be an integral element in architecture and a media of communication.
