The city scope of Frankfurt am Main is so imposed through its commanding skyline like no other German metropolis ever had.The German Artist Thomas Emde was contracted for a light installation concept and realisation of the Commerzbank high rise, established by the British star architect Lord Norman Foster. Through the illumination of the high rise which started with the new millennium, Thomas Emde not only enhanced the architecture concept of Foster, but opened the way for the guests and the residents to experience new architecure.For only at night opens the giant his tender soul.

Through the 1997 established high rise of Commerzbank, Lord Norman Foster didn't only carry out a new record mark with 300 Meter highest office building in Europe, he also proofed that city constructional monumentality with its simplicity  could be with the greatest transparency related to human constructional culture.  

With his flowing through light architecture and 10 luxurious gardens extending over four floors sky high, reaching the opening roof terrace, the architect Lord Norman Foster who belongs to one of the fewer architects who take into account the consume of energy, costs, context and aesthetic equal measures, created a zone of tranquility in the restless business world of the bankers. The Characteristic of the architecture of commerzbank high rise is not only that its enormous high and individual in its triangular rolling form, but also its transparency, anoxic through the canister gardens. Thomas Emde and blendwork have interpreted and implemented this particular idea to illuminate the building concept. which was in the figurative sense of Fosters by saving energy and highlighting not only the outer shining but also the inner being.

The result is an advanced development of an architectural trancparence into a new dimension. sun is shining day over through the gardens into the building, night over shines the light from the rings round the building canister through the gardens. the vertical lighting on the outer walls the upper "landscaping" covers the atrium facade of the roof gardens with a curtain of light
a light installation is established, which is identical with the architecture and highlights its characteristic. Furthermore a possibility is created to consider architecture and light art always in a new way and due to perspectives.
