The "research and Development" division at emdelight views itself as a source of ideas for the lighting industry. The aim is to identify the know- how and the potential in the laboratories right at the development stage. On the one hand to take advantage of using the properties right early on, since intellectual properties are increasingly decisive factors for market power, and on the other hand to try out new technical possibilities for potential applications and product viability. The time span from development to production is becomming ever shorter (observe the development of LEDs in the past three years). Nowadays " New Technologies" means OLED, nanotechnology, electroluminescence as well as moving interference images from static white light.

An expertise pool is growing out of closer cooperation between the research companies and institutions, which gathers the knowledge from the individual partners and prevails over the knowledge of the individuals. The aim is to take advantage of this expertise and the research investment made by partners for use in coming projects.
